Anyone that lives in Toronto or who has visited Toronto has likely had the privilege of a TTC experience. There are times when it is a totally enjoyable experience. But that's rare. In the day-to-day rush hour commute, the level of etiquette, manners and just general care for anyone else is lacking. So in case you're new (which is okay, just make notes...), here are some guidelines for how NOT to be a total arse while riding the TTC.
- If you're wearing a backpack or carrying a massive purse or bag, put it on the ground between your feet or on your lap if you're sitting. This will prevent creating extra congestion and being bumped every time someone needs past you.
- Your bag or belongings did NOT pay for the seat beside you.
- Stand up if you're sitting in the outside seat and someone wants out. The pivot-method is FAR from convenient and polite.
- Once the inside seat is vacant, it's appreciated if you move to the inside. It's not overly welcoming to have to ask to sit down and disturb you.
- We all appreciate people that wear deodorant, but don't bathe in your perfume/cologne before you go out in the morning. This is a general life rule. It gives people headaches.
- People who are elderly, pregnant, injured or with young children SHOULD be at least offered a seat. Be that person that gives up their seat; it's good karma.
